2 + Abortions Worldwide

"It was a really tough decision for me, but one that was for the best."

This story is published at Reddit. It includes two people each sharing about their medication abortion experiences as they ended their pregnancies of twins.

I wanted to post my experience and hopefully it will help someone else. I haven’t seen many twin posts. I was really scared to read negative experiences and I read some of these posts with one eye open, but this is a POSITIVE experience so don’t worry!😊

Yesterday was my medical abortion. I was 7 weeks and a few days. I was shook to find out there was two. Although one wasn’t growing very well, it was still a really tough decision for me, but one that was for the best in the long run. I'm 25 & live in the U.K.

The day before I had to go and take the first tablet. It made me feel pretty crappy, but I was also coming down with the flu so that might be something. I also had awful sickness. I took the tablet and the hospital kept me for an hour to make sure I didn’t throw up. I ended up throwing up once I got home, about 2 hours after taking tablet. This was fine, though, it had been long enough.

I went into hospital at 8:15 yesterday. Here in the UK you have to pass the pregnancy at hospital. I was honestly petrified. I have really bad anxiety so it was terrible.

I put the 4 tablets in my cheeks and was told to let them dissolve for 30 mins. After this I swallowed one and threw it up immediately, and another one fell out but I still had two dissolving. The nurse told me to just wait until these two had dissolved.

Even whilst they were dissolving, I started to have cramps and about 2 hours later I passed the first. I didn’t look. I knew straight away what had happened. I rang the bell and the nurse took the bed pan away. It didn’t hurt, it just felt uncomfortable but kinda relieving.

The cramps were like bad period pains. I walked around a lot to speed up the process. I had no pain relief but I was offered it.

About half an hour later I ran back to the toilet and I felt something else come out that felt really unusual. After I'd gone back to my room I was sick. I thought this was the 2nd but no nurse came to confirm.

At 1pm a different nurse came and gave me two more dissolving tablets as nothing else was happening. These dissolved for another hour and the cramps were getting bad again but the cramps weren’t the worst part. The cold shivers were! So make sure you have lots of blankets!!

I had some more bleeding and at 3pm she came in and told me I had passed the other, however it didn’t feel like it? I don’t know if they made an error and I had actually passed when I thought. But anyways, I was just relieved!!

Honestly, it wasn’t great but the actual waiting from finding out I was pregnant until the termination was the worst part of it all, and the sickness!! 😩

Things that helped: Marijuana (no tobacco). Sea bands. Heat pad. Talking to someone!!! I ate crackers, fruit and crisps, these were the only things I could really keep down. Gatorade!! (Blue, still)

So now it's been almost 24 hours since I took the tablets, I have slept for 10 of them. The cramps aren’t really bad at all now and neither is the bleeding. Also my morning sickness has completely gone, although I'm waiting for my appetite to return 😊

A Reddit Reader Responds with her own experience:

I will be going through this on Wednesday. I am supposed to take the first pill today but I’m nervous since I have been utterly sick the entire time.

I found out on Friday during the prep ultrasound that its twins. I was supposed to go through the process at home. But because it turned out to be two instead of one and I have a gene mutation that ups the risk of blood clots. They wanted me to do it at the hospital, which will be at 8:30 in the morning.

I’m not scared of pain. My periods have always been rather violent. But reading peoples stories about the clots and you actually knew when you had passed them — all that terrifies me, to be honest.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I can’t wait to be on the other side of all this. <3

I got home about 3 hours ago but fell asleep almost immediately like you said. It took about 2.5 hours from the time the vaginal suppositories was inserted until things started happening.

I was waiting for lunch to arrive in my room as I was starving and just as I was about to eat the pains got serious. My pain tolerance is pretty high so this was a bit of a surprise. It was so bad I got a bit of morphine and when that kicked in I powered through.

The clotting was next to nothing! They said it’s because it was such an early pregnancy. I only felt the passing of clotting twice in total and that seems to have been the passing of the embryos as well.

I knew I was gonna feel something when I got out of the bed again cause while sitting in the bed I suddenly had begun feeling so much better, and just as expected, I moved to the edge of the bed getting ready to go sit in the bathroom again and didn’t even get on my feet before I felt the second clot pass and that was it!

It definitely wasn’t the horror scenario I had pictured in my head. It was quite peaceful. I just sat in bed and enjoyed the beautiful lake view for most of it.

This wasn’t in the hospital but the patient hotel next door, so much more quiet and private. The staff made the whole experience very manageable, and I got to bring home a bunch of those diaper sized pads and sheets for sitting on so I am well covered for the couple of days of heavy bleeding.

I have no pains anymore. My nausea is completely gone and my appetite has returned. I haven’t felt this good and back to normal for almost a month, so its like my whole body just took this huge sigh of relief and now I can just relax and recover.

All in all it was a pretty positive experience under the circumstances, but I definitely am getting an IUD to avoid having to go through it again in the future.

Thank you kindly for your support, it was a comfort knowing someone out there knew exactly what I was going through <3
