Abortions are a human right, and having more than one abortion is common. Almost half of all US abortion patients self-report having one or more prior abortions. Countless more do not report because of the stigma.
We know that abortion decisions are grounded in love, wisdom and responsibility — and this truth is revealed in the lived experiences shared by people who have and provide abortions.
We are a library of more than 1,000 abortion stories and growing. All together the stories convey the complexity of our reproductive lives, exposing the blatant lies and cruel stereotypes that assume the worst of people who experience pregnancies.
We also share stories of other highly stigmatized abortions: stories of people who’ve had abortions of twins, and people who’ve had abortions later in pregnancy.
These true experiences underscore the need for access to safe, shame-free abortions everywhere around the world, in the context of a world that is safe for people to have children, to not have children, and to parent in healthy and safe communities. This need for Reproductive Justice is most urgent for Black, Indigenous, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latine, and Middle Eastern and African women, girls, and transgender and gender-expansive people.
We also share: words of support for you; simple ways to fight stigma; stories for people of faith; abortion stories on Instagram; emotional support links; and podcasts about abortions.
Our mission is to create a compassionate world for people who have abortions, a world where pregnant people can thrive rather than be judged, silenced, isolated, harassed, manipulated, abused, physically harmed, discriminated against, or imprisoned.
